Procedures for Accrediting LGBT Youth Services

BeLonGTo

2014

What they wanted

BeLonGTo wanted to review, improve and standardize their procedures for accrediting youth services and other organisations doing LGBT work. They had an existing supporting resource for services, and accreditation process. They felt that as the number of organisations supporting LGBT youth grew, so too did the need to ensure the support they were providing to them was as good as it could be.

What we did

We undertook consultations with staff, young people and other stakeholders to get an understanding of what aspects of the support was helpful, what was missing, what ‘quality’ means for LGBT youth services. With this information, and a review of good practice in this area, we developed a research report and a number of recommendations for developing the quality standards, to ensure that it appropriately reflects the expertise and experience of BeLonGTo that other youth services can learn from.
